For Minerva, Social Responsibility is one of our core values. We demonstrate our commitment to this value by contributing at least 30% of our work pro-bono for non-profits and other service oriented businesses. We use our expertise in effective work practices, team work training, and organizational development to help these organizations achieve their goals. Minerva’s CEO Kathryn Keeton is thrilled to accept the SAReads Board Chair and looks forward to supporting SAReads in this new capacity.
SAReads values Social Responsibility. They help students in San Antonio learn to read through effective teacher training, specifically science-based reading instruction (SBRI).
The problem is clear: San Antonio ranks 76th out of 82 major U.S. cities when it comes to adult literacy. Only 69.4 percent of Alamo City third graders were reading at grade level in 2016, according to STAAR assessments.
There are many reasons SAReads and Minerva are a good match, because SAReads’ training program is data-driven, and their program centers around improving teacher instruction. Objective testing shows their approach significantly improves student reading and comprehension. They are a donation and volunteer base organization accomplishing a critical mission within the San Antonio community. Lastly, their efforts align beautifully with our own focus of social responsibility, data-driven methods, and objectivity.
